Melrose is a quiet country town that has many different recreational activities to offer so you will be sure to enjoy your vacation whether it is a weekend trip or a long family vacation.
Big Hole River
The Big Hole River is one of Montana's finest attractions, with diversity that's hard to match. The Big Hole is home to Rainbow, Brown, Brook Trout, and Cutthroat fish. Rocky Mountain Whitefish are also present, as well as the last fluvial (river-dwelling) population of grayling in the continental United States. The Big Hole is fish-able all the way from the source down to the convergence with the Beaverhead.
Our locals treasure the scenic beauty of the Pioneer Mountains and the outdoorsman live for the abundance of wildlife and beautiful trails for hiking and four wheeling. The Pioneers are a great place for big game hunting and fabulous fishing on the Big Hole River and Wise River. Though these two rivers provide the most popular places to fish, but the mountain lakes and smaller side streams throughout this mountain range can be just as productive.
